Una Baixada de l’Aigua de Sant Magí motoritzada

La 27a edició de la tradicional Baixada de l’Aigua de Sant Magí s’ha dut a terme en un camió d’època. La situació actual de la pandèmia ha obligat els portants a aparcar els carruatges i cavalls i fer ús d’un biscúter de l’any 1957, propietat d’un dels seus membres. Si la baixada es feia a 6 km/h i suposava dos dies de trajecte, enguany, a 60 km/h, només ha calgut mig dia per recórrer els 66 quilòmetres que hi ha entre el santuari de Brufaganya i Tarragona. A primera hora d’aquest dilluns una reduïda comitiva de portants -no superaven la vintena, quan cada any en són més de vuitanta- ha iniciat la ruta que travessa la Conca de Barberà, l’Alt Camp i el Tarragonès. Els onze punts on es fa parada s’han senyalitzat amb unes escultures de ferro.

Es tracta d’una imatge de Sant Magí, d’1,70 metres d’alçada, feta amb planxa de ferro en un taller de Valls. Junt a l’escultura hi ha el circuit amb els onze punts per on passa la comitiva fins arribar a Tarragona. La idea de marcar la ruta maginiana amb tòtems ja es tenia en ment feia dos anys. Els portants s’han volgut afanyar a executar-la en una edició marcada per la pandèmia.

 

A causa de la covid-19 s’ha hagut de reduir la comitiva de portants, retirar els carruatges i escurçar els dos dies de viatge a mig dia. Els portants, però, s’han pres la jornada amb la mateixa il·lusió de cada any, a un ritme més àgil gràcies al camionet de color verd. Molts no han pogut evitar fer-se una fotografia al costat del biscúter -amb l’antiga matricula tarragonina de quatre números.

 

Aquest singular vehicle d’època i el seu petit remolc ha substituït els vuit carros amb cavalls carregats amb 4.000 litres d’aigua. El coordinador dels portants, Carles Salvadó, diu que s’ha volgut emular les baixades dels anys 60 i 70. “Antigament molta gent ho feia així; amb aquests vehicles carregaven aigua del santuari de Sant Magí de la Brufaganya i la repartien per Tarragona”, afirma.

 

En només mig dia, els portants han fet parada als onze punts de la ruta. A l’albereda de Santes Creus, on cada any hi dinaven, enguany hi han esmorzat. A Bràfim, on hi feien nit, han fet una breu parada a l’ermita. A cada punt, com marca la tradició, s’han lliurat dos petits recipients amb l’aigua a les autoritats locals i, a toc de gralla, els portants han prosseguit el camí, a bon ritme.

 

Malgrat els avisos de pluja, l’aigua ha respectat la baixada fins arribar a la ciutat de Tarragona, al Portal del Carro, punt final de la ruta, al punt de les tres del migdia. El repartiment d’aigua a Tarragona es farà entre dimarts i dimecres, dia de Sant Magí. Una de les novetats d’enguany és que s’han posat més punts de distribució de l’aigua -set en total- i s’han descentralitzat per la ciutat.

 

Això ha estat possible amb el suport de les colles castelleres i de l’Associació de Veïns de Bonavista, l’Associació de Veïns Verge del Pilar i Eixample, l’Associació de Veïns Progressista de Torreforta i l’Associació de Veïns Campclar-Zona Esportiva. Amb la meitat d’actes d’edicions anteriors, les festes de Sant Magí de Tarragona no disposen enguany de diada castellera, processó, ni revetlles, però s’ha pogut mantenir una de les grans tradicions populars de la festa major d’estiu de la ciutat.
