Retiren deixalles i blocs de formigó del litoral tarragoní per a protegir prats de posidònia

La posidònia pot fixar CO2 i produeix entre 14 i 20 litres d'oxigen per metre quadrat, fet que la converteix en reguladores del canvi climàtic i en ecosistemes a protegir i mantenir.

SUBMON i Deltasub han delimitat diferents àrees de boscos submarins de posidònia i gram al Baix Camp, a la zona litoral de l’Hospitalet de l’Infant i Mont-roig del Camp, per extreure’n residus que perjudiquin aquests prats. Han arribat a retirar 1.360 quilos de deixalles del litoral tarragoní. També s’han retirat del fons marí 14 blocs de formigó que impactaven a les praderies de posidònia (Posidonia oceanica) i gram (Cymodocea nodosa). A la costa de Tarragona i l’Ebre hi ha quatre espais Natura 2000 marins, 54.840 hectàrees en la majoria de les quals hi ha praderies de fanerògames marines.

Aquestes praderies són importants per a la protecció de moltes espècies animals i centenars de vegetals, que creixen en aquests boscos submarins. Són capaces de fixar CO2 i produeixen entre 14 i 20 litres d’oxigen per metre quadrat, fet que les converteix en reguladores del canvi climàtic, i la seva destrucció pot ocasionar que s’alliberin més de 50 quilos de CO2 per metre quadrat a l’atmosfera.

El projecte Boscos Submarins de SUBMON busca mantenir aquests boscos de plantes marines en un estat òptim de conservació, per tal que puguin continuar oferint els seus serveis ecosistèmics. Ja ha retirat residus què afectaven prats de posidònia en diferents comarques i espais de la costa catalana. Per a dur a terme aquest objectiu al Baix Camp, l’empresa compta amb el suport de Goodman i Mares Sostenibles, i la col·laboració de l’Ajuntament de Vandellòs i l’Hospitalet de l’Infant i l’Ajuntament de Mont-roig del Camp.
