Pomes per reduir el colesterol? La Unitat de Nutrició i Salut del centre tecnològic Eurecat, l’Hospital Universitari Sant Joan de Reus i la Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) busca 40 persones adultes per completar un estudi sobre l’efecte del consum de pomes de polpa vermella en la reducció del colesterol LDL, conegut popularment com colesterol “dolent”. La recerca la impulsen des de Reus i comparen l’impacte del consum de pomes de polpa vermella amb les de polpa blanca i les infusions d’un fruit vermell anomenat aronia. L’objectiu és analitzar l’efecte de les antocianines, components d’origen natural presents en algunes varietats d’aquestes fruites, en la reducció d’aquest tipus de colesterol.

En l’estudi, que porta per títol AppleCor, hi han de participar 120 persones adultes amb uns índex de colesterol LDL superiors a 115mg/dL. Durant 6 setmanes els participants hauran de consumir diàriament una de les tres varietats de productes analitzades. El voluntariat ha de ser no fumador i no prendre medicació per a la diabetis, la pressió arterial ni el colesterol.

En paraules de la doctora i cap d’estudis d’intervenció en humans d’Eurecat, Rosa Solà, “la implicació dels voluntaris és un factor imprescindible per poder confirmar o no la relació del consum de pomes de polpa vermella i la reducció del colesterol LDL” i en aquesta línia “contribuir a disminuir el colesterol ‘dolent’, que es calcula que afecta el 45% de la població”.
