Els experts sobre el tritó del Montseny continuaràn treballant per a restaurar l’hàbitat i conservar l’espècie

Un cop acabat el projecte europeu Life Tritó del Montseny, els principals agents impulsors d'aquest han decidit seguir amb els treballs que permetràn millorar la situació actual d'aquesta espècie.

El tritó del Montseny no està en el seu millor moment. De fet, en paraules del coordinador del projecte Life Tritó Montseny, Dani Guinart: “El tenim a l’UCI, però està estable”. La feina feta durant sis anys corrobora que aquest amfibi endèmic del Montseny i únic a Catalunya està en perill crític d’extinció a causa de la falta d’aigua i el canvi climàtic. Els quatre principals agents involucrats al projecte (Diputacions de Barcelona i Girona, Zoo de Barcelona i Generalitat) han decidit seguir amb els treballs per restaurar l’hàbitat, un cop el projecte europeu ha acabat.

El projecte Life Tritó del Montseny ha desenvolupat una cinquantena d’actuacions vinculades a la investigació i a la divulgació sobre l’espècie, així com intervencions en el territori, especialment aquelles que permeten garantir la connectivitat fluvial, la restauració d’hàbitats de ribera o assegurar el cabal dels torrents.

El coordinador del projecte, Dani Guinart, ha explicat que precisament una de les accions que més reconeixement ha tingut, també en l’impacte assolit, ha estat la de la connectivitat dels torrents. “Són de les intervencions més fructíferes i més ben rebudes”, ha assenyalat. D’una banda permeten millorar la connectivitat del territori, i de l’altra netejar els torrents de residus que impedeixen el pas dels tritons. “El problema és que és una actuació cara”, ha afegit. De fet, Guinart ha explicat que el seu objectiu és que tota la reserva del Montseny tingui aquest tipus de ponts en un futur.

L’hàbitat del tritó del Montseny

Un altre dels aspectes que s’han tractat durant els anys de projecte és la necessitat de fer compatible les activitats d’extracció de recursos de la muntanya amb la supervivència de l’espècie. En el cas de la fusta, els experts demanen que es tingui especial cura a l’hora de fer els camins perquè no es malmetin els torrents on viu el tritó. D’altra banda, sobre l’aigua demanen que l’extracció es faci respectant els cabals ecològics, “que és el que la llei marca, però molts cops no s’aplica”.

La decisió de tots els agents implicats en el projecte de seguir amb el compromís per treballar per la conservació de l’espècie va encaminada sobretot a intentar restaurar el seu hàbitat, ha explicat el coordinador. “Hem de continuar dedicant esforços sobretot per restaurar el lloc on viu, per tornar a tenir un hàbitat com fa 500 anys enrere on la intervenció de l’home no hi era o era mínima”.

Un investigador pren mostres del tritó del Montseny al riu

En la mateixa línia, el responsable de l’àrea de reproduccions del zoo de Barcelona, Juli Mauri, ha destacat que la clau de la supervivència és poder recuperar els hàbitats. “No podem enviar animals a un destí incert”, ha assegurat. Des del zoo de Barcelona s’han criat en captivitat uns 350 exemplars de tritó i se n’han reintroduit al Montseny uns 280. “És molt important que la població que es reintrodueix sigui sana, viable i estable, per enfortir l’espècie”, ha afegit. Trobar els tritons als torrents del Montseny és una tasca complicada perquè són animals que difícilment es deixen veure. Segons les estimacions més optimistes, la colònia estaria formada per uns 2.500 exemplars.

Durant la jornada de presentació de les conclusions del projecte Life que s’ha celebrat aquest dijous a Seva s’ha parlat de diferents aspectes del tritó, com ara els protocols de cria, la bioseguretat, la recerca aplicada a la conservació de l’espècie, el seguiment que se li ha fet o els resultats dels estudis sobre la gestió dels recursos hidràulics i recuperació dels cabals ecològics. En total s’han realitzat una cinquantena d’accions.
