Els arqueòlegs d’Empúries troben les restes d’un santuari del segle VI aC possiblement dedicat a Dèmeter

Els arqueòlegs d’Empúries han trobat les restes d’un santuari del segle VI aC possiblement dedicat a Dèmeter, la deessa de l’agricultura. L’espai de culte es va construir durant l’època fundacional de la ciutat grega i va perdurar com a mínim durant tres segles. L’arqueòleg del jaciment, Pere Castanyer, explica que en campanyes anteriors ja havien trobat “pistes” de l’existència d’aquest santuari, com fragments de figures de terracota. Ara, aquest 2022 han pogut excavar l’àrea on s’assentava. Aquí, en destaca la troballa d’un dipòsit de culte on s’han desenterrat vasos i objectes rituals. Castanyer destaca que el santuari, que comunicava el port amb la ciutat, entronca Empúries amb l’esquema d’altres ciutats gregues del Mediterrani..
