Les vinyes de la DO Penedes necessitaràn més aigua cada any

El territori DO Penedès és una zona de secà, però des de fa dues temporades els viticultors asseguren que pateixen amb més intensitat els efectes de la sequera i l’augment de les temperatures. En la d’enguany, ha plogut un 40% menys que l’anterior i les pluges de la primavera del 2022 no han estat suficients. Si les prediccions d’augment de temperatures es compleixen, els experts asseguren que les vinyes de la DO necessitaran entre una i dues vegades més aigua el 2030 i fins a quatre més a finals de segle. Tot i que davant la falta d’aigua el regadiu pot ser una solució “puntual, els experts no la veuen definitiva ni sostenible.

Durant la presentació a Vilafranca del projecte ‘SECAREGVIN Viabilitat de la transformació de vinya de secà a regadiu en la D.O. Penedès’, investigadors de l’IRTA, experts de l’ACA i de l’EURECAT, han assenyalat que cal saber quanta aigua disponible hi ha a cada territori i dissenyar i executar estratègies d’adaptació a escala local i regional. “Un dels principals problemes no és que hi hagi menys aigua, sinó que cada vegada s’evaporarà més i més ràpid degut a l’augment de les temperatures”, ha advertit l’investigador emèrit de l’IRTA, Robert Savé.

 

Per avaluar si un territori pot assumir un sistema de regadiu és important saber quanta aigua necessitarà la vinya de la DO Penedès al llarg de tot el segle, a més de veure com afectarà el canvi climàtic el seu cicle de vida.

Segons les projeccions climàtiques i agronòmiques del projecte SECAREGVIN, que ha presentat la tècnica de l’IRTA, Inmaculada Funes, en el pitjor escenari de canvi climàtic, a finals de la dècada actual, la vinya de la DO Penedès necessitarà entre una i dues vegades més aigua que la del període de referència (43 mm/any de mitjana calculat durant el període 1972-2005) i fins a quatre vegades més a finals de segle.

 

La tradició vitivinícola del Penedès sempre s’ha basat en les aportacions de la pluja. Per plantejar el regadiu en un territori de secà com la D.O. Penedès és necessari conèixer l’estat de les aigües subterrànies del territori, quina qualitat tenen i quines possibilitats d’explotació tenen. En aquest sentit, José David Comino, tècnic del Departament de Concessions de l’Àrea d’Abastament d’Aigua de l’ACA, ha assegurat que les massa subterrània a la zona és limitada, amb tres aqüífers poc productius i amb una aigua de baixa qualitat.
