La verema de la DO Empordà s’avança deu dies a causa de la calor i la manca de pluges

La forta calor d’aquest estiu sumada a la manca de pluges d’aquest hivern i tardor han obligat a la DO Empordà a avançar uns deu dies la verema d’enguany. Es tracta, de fet, de l’estiu “més sec” que recorden i això ha provocat un important estrès hídric en els ceps. El raïm ha madurat abans d’hora i, tot i que serà més petit, tindrà “molta qualitat”. “Tot ens fa pensar que tindrem uns vins de concentració i molt nets d’aromes”, assegura el president de la Comissió Tècnica del Consell Regulador de la DO Empordà, Antoni Roig. Els cellers de la DO preveuen una producció similar a la mitjana –d’uns 60.000 hectolitres- i “lleugerament inferior” però estan a l’expectativa del temps que faci en les properes setmanes.

Els cellers de la DO Empordà han començat aquest aquesta la verema recollint les varietats primerenques, com el moscatell de gra petit i algunes varietats blanques i negres per a l’elaboració d’escumosos. Es tracta d’una situació excepcional perquè s’ha fet entre set i deu dies abans del que és habitual i, en alguns casos, ha superat les tres setmanes.

 

És el cas del celler Olivardots, de Capmany. La seva responsable, Carlota Pena, diu que és l’estiu més sec que recorden i també l’any amb la verema més avançada. El motiu: la calor extrema dels últims mesos sumada a la manca de precipitacions d’aquesta tardor i hivern. “Aquestes calorades ens estan fent córrer i no sabem com anirà perquè no sabem quin temps farà”, remarca.

Les vinyes que disposen de reg, que són mínimes, han pogut minimitzar els efectes de la manca de pluges però la majoria de ceps han patit un estrès hídric que ha propiciat que el raïm madurés abans del que és habitual. Això, a la vegada, ha fet que el gra sigui més petit però que estigui “molt sa”. Per això, la DO preveu que la collida sigui d’una qualitat “excel·lent” perquè tindrà més “concentració” i serà “més net en aromes”.

 

El gruix de la producció -garnatxes i carinyenes- es collirà durant aquest mes i durant el setembre. Es preveu que la campanya s’acabi a principis d’octubre. Per això, els cellers de la denominació no es volen aventurar a fer prediccions sobre la producció. Estan a l’expectativa del temps que farà en les properes setmanes però auguren que se situarà al voltant de la mitjana, que és d’uns 60.000 hectolitres, o “lleugerament inferior”, en funció de les pluges.

 

Combatre les destrosses dels senglars

La presència de senglars continua al capdavant de les preocupacions del sector. L’extrema sequera ha propiciat que cada cop sigui més els que baixen de les muntanyes, on no troben aigua, i s’alimenten del preuat raïm. Això ha provocat, de facto, que alguns viticultors s’hagin vist obligats a avançar la verema per evitar quedar-se sense collita a causa de les destrosses que provoquen aquests animals a les vinyes o a posar-hi tanques i els anomenats “pastors elèctrics”. Es tracta de tanques electrificades que intenten impedir que els animals entrin a les finques.

El sector, però, considera que les batudes actuals són insuficients per fer front a la problemàtica que afecta, molt especialment, la zona de la DO Empordà, i demana més implicació de l’administració. En aquest sentit, demanen ajuts per fer front als costos d’instal·lar tanques a les finques per evitar que hi facin destrosses. “Hem de fer possible que aquestes mesures es generalitzin i puguem protegir-nos”, remarca Roig.

 

Olivadots és un dels cellers que disposa de tanques en algunes de les seves finques i també de “pastors elèctrics”. Pena diu que van decidir avançar-se després que de l’experiència de l’any passat, que també va registrar un estiu molt càlid i que va propiciar la presència de senglars a les seves vinyes.
