Els treballs arqueològics que es fan a l’exterior del Museu Arqueològic Comarcal de Banyoles, a la Pia Almoina, han posat al descobert un nou pany de la muralla medieval. La intervenció, que s’acabarà aquesta setmana, ha permès també localitzar les restes d’una casa del segle XIII, ceràmiques de l’època o una mesura de gra amb l’escut de la ciutat. Els arqueòlegs van començar a treballar en aquest espai ara fa dues setmanes. La responsable de la intervenció, Anna Augé, ha posat en relleu el tram de muralla que s’ha desenterrat, perquè assoleix “gairebé els 2 metres d’amplada”, cosa que no s’esperaven. Les excavacions que s’han dut a terme a la zona del pati s’emmarquen dins el projecte de reforma i ampliació del museu.

Les excavacions arqueològiques s’estan fent a l’exterior de l’edifici de la Pia Almoina, per la banda del carrer del mateix nom, on se situarà la futura entrada al museu una vegada completades les obres de reforma i ampliació. Els treballs, que s’han allargat unes tres setmanes, han permès descobrir un nou pany de l’antiga muralla medieval. També s’han localitzat restes d’una casa del segle XIII i de construccions industrials més modernes, així com peces de ceràmica medieval, monedes, un fragment d’una mesura de gra amb l’escut de la ciutat o un os treballat.

 

La responsable de les excavacions subratlla que “el tram de muralla assoleix gairebé els 2 metres d’amplada”, cosa que els ha sobtat perquè no s’esperaven trobar un pany d’aquesta mida. Anna Augé, que ha precisat que els treballs s’acabaran aquest divendres, també ha afegit que durant la intervenció s’han descobert dues edificacions i una zona de pati del segle XIII que no es van abandonar fins al segle XV.

 

El regidor de Cultura de Banyoles, Miquel Cuenca, ha avançat que el pany de la muralla es conservarà i s’integrarà al futur edifici del museu com a Bé Cultural d’Interès Nacional (BCIN). Les peces més petites ingressaran al fons del Museu Arqueològic. Pel que fa a les restes d’estructures d’altres edificis, es documentaran i s’eliminaran.

Reforma i ampliació

El projecte de reforma i ampliació del Museu Arqueològic permetrà dotar el museu d’un edifici adjacent de nova planta amb soterrani per acollir un magatzem i un espai per als serveis educatius. A més, aprofitant l’obra, també s’actualitzarà el discurs museogràfic.

 

Entre els fons que guarda el museu hi ha la major col·lecció europea de cranis de felins de dents de sabre, restes del gènere homo i del primer homo sapiens coneguts a Catalunya (cronologies de 200.000 i 20.000 anys respectivament) o l’arc de fusta neolític més antic d’Europa (7.000 anys). El projecte de reforma i ampliació compta amb el suport de la Diputació i del Departament de Cultura de la Generalitat.
