Catalunya participa al projecte LIFE AgroForAdapt per adaptar l’agricultura al canvi climàtic

Més de 40 finques -800 hectàrees en total- de Catalunya, Castella i Lleó i la França Mediterrània participen en un projecte europeu per adaptar l’agricultura i la gestió forestal al canvi climàtic. Segons informa el Centre de Ciència i Tecnologia Forestal de Catalunya (CTFC), es tracta del projecte LIFE AgroForAdapt, que té per objectiu demostrar que els sistemes agroforestals poden ser una eina clau per a l’adaptació al canvi climàtic dels sectors agrícola i forestal. Concretament, el projecte se centra en dos tipus de sistemes agroforestals: la combinació d’arbres i arbustos amb cultius agrícoles i la combinació del pasturatge en terrenys amb usos forestals. La iniciativa s’allargarà durant cinc anys.

Des del CTFC asseguren que aquests ecosistemes es fonamenten en un “aprofitament més eficient de l’ús de recursos (llum, aigua i nutrients del sòl) que augmenta la productivitat de les finques”. A més, expliquen que s’ha comprovat com aquests sistemes “permeten protegir el sòl, augmentar la biodiversitat i reduir els impactes de les sequeres i la vulnerabilitat a incendis forestals, fent-los molt més resilients al canvi climàtic que els sistemes convencionals d’agricultura i silvicultura”.

 

Per demostrar-ho, es treballarà a més de 40 finques (més de 800 hectàrees en total) de Catalunya, Castella i Lleó i la França Mediterrània implementant sistemes agroforestals demostratius, i se’n farà un seguiment per estudiar-ne els diversos indicadors. El seguiment inclou indicadors productius, el balanç de carboni, la biodiversitat i la vulnerabilitat davant incendis forestals i la sequera.

 

Aquest projecte, cofinançat pel programa LIFE de la UE, té un enfocament multidisciplinari i transnacional, amb vuit beneficiaris: Centre de Ciència i Tecnologia Forestal de Catalunya (coordinador), Agresta S. Coop, Agroof, Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, Generalitat de Catalunya – Departament d’Acció Climàtica Alimentació i Agenda Rural, Diputació de Barcelona, Diputació de Girona i Fundació Emys. També compta amb el suport de la Diputació de Tarragona.
